This book takes place in a fictional Kingdom called Kimbria, in a world not of our own. Kalina is seven years old. For the last year, since her mother died, she has attended a boarding school with her second cousin Keri, who is ten and an orphan. The boarding school is run by nuns, including their cousin Sister Ermentrude, who has been raising Keri since she lost both of her parents when she was only two. The cousins share the sadness of having lost one or both of their parents, but they also share much happiness as well, including being from a secret homeland called Kimberlee where they go.
